Heavy Rain Likely In Maharashtra For 5 Days; Red Alert For Karnataka, Saurashtra On July 17, 18: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) for central Maharashtra for the next five days. The IMD has issued red alert (extremely heavy rain) for South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra and Kutch on July 17, 18. Coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa is likely to get extremely heavy rain on July 18, the IMD report said.
An orange alert has been sounded for West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Saurashtra and Kutch, Telangana, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka for the next five days.
According to the IMD, the monsoon trough is active and south of its normal position. It is likely to be south of its normal position during the next four-five days. The off-shore trough runs along south Gujarat-north Kerala coasts at mean sea level. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal around July 19. A cyclonic circulation lies over Saurashtra and Kutch in lower tropospheric levels.
WEST, CENTRAL AND SOUTH PENINSULAR INDIA FORECAST
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over West and Central India, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Karnataka; isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Rayalaseema during the next five days.
Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat Region, Kerala and Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, North Interior Karnataka during the next five days, Marathwada on July 17 and 20.
Orange alert: Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on July 17 and 18; Kerala and Mahe during July 17-19; Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during July 18-20; Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh on July 19, 20; East Madhya Pradesh on July 20, 21; Gujarat Region from July 17-19.

EAST, NORTHEAST INDIA FORECAST
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and Odisha; scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Bihar, Jharkhand and Northeast India during the next five days.
Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 17; Gangetic West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from July 19-21; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 20 and 21; Jharkhand on July 21; Odisha from July 17-21; Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on July 17, 20 and 21.
Orange alert: Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Odisha on July 19 and 20.
NORTHWEST INDIA FORECAST
Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi; isolated to scattered rainfall likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan during the next five days.
Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan during the next five days, Punjab, West Rajasthan on July 17 and 18, Haryana-Chandigarh on July 17, 18 and 21, Uttar Pradesh on July 20, 21.
Orange alert: Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan on July 17, 18.
