Heavy Rain Likely In Bengaluru & Hyderabad, Heatwave In Delhi | Check IMD Weather Forecast For Next 3 Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the much-awaited southwest monsoon has entered parts of Lakshadweep, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. It has also reached parts of West Bengal days before its usual onset date of June 5. The monsoon is expected to advance further into these areas in the next 2-3 days causing fairly widespread rainfall in many parts of the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and parts of the Bay of Bengal, the weatherman said.

In Delhi, residents could get a short-lived relief from scorching heat as IMD has issued a yellow alert for Monday and Tuesday, warning of both heatwave conditions during the day and the possibility of a thunderstorm, gusty winds and light rain towards late evening and night.

Earlier, the IMD had predicted above-normal rainfall for the core monsoon zone in India this season, with below-normal rainfall expected in the northeast.

State Wise IMD Weather Forecast

Karnataka

Parts of Karnataka received fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Sunday. Several trees were uprooted due to intense thunderstorms with strong winds in Bengaluru, where the Trinity Metro Station on the Purple Line also faced disruption in services after an uprooted tree fell over the track.

IMD has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in the state till June 6. As per the weathermen, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely in parts till Thursday.

The monsoon entered the state two days earlier than its forecast data and is expected to cover the entire state in the next couple of days.

Andhra Pradesh

Heavy rainfall lashed many areas of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday evening, as southwest monsoon arrived in the state two days ahead of the schedule.

According to IMD, the conditions continue to be favourable for further advance of monsoon into more areas and it may cover the entire state in the next 5 to 7 days.

The state will most likely experience above-normal monsoon rains, the Met Department said.

Kerala

Amid heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon in various parts of Kerala, the IMD has issued alerts for the Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Wayanad districts.

While an orange alert indicating a possibility of “very heavy rainfall” is issued for Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Wayanad districts have been put under yellow alert forecasting a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to intense spells of rainfall.

The weather department has also revised its predictions for the northern districts of Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad, upgrading them from green to yellow alerts, which signify heavy rainfall.

West Bengal

The monsoon has already set foot in north Bengal. As per IMD, a wet spell is expected over the state till June 6 as the southwest monsoon will intensify in the coming days.

Maharashtra

As per IMD, the monsoons are expected to arrive in the state in the next three to four days. Before that, Pune is expected to experience thunderous weather with rainfall in patches during the evening till June 7, leading to a reduction in the city’s day temperature.

As per a report by the Times of India, Cyclone Remal caused the Bay of Bengal branch of the monsoon to get stronger, taking it to northeast India, while the Arabian Sea branch weakened.

“It will take a few days for the monsoon to re-align, thus causing a delay in monsoon entry over south Maharashtra and later even northwest India. June rainfall forecast for northwest India shows below normal rains,” the report quoted an official as saying.

North & Central India

A Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulations are likely to bring light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next five days.

However, heat wave conditions are likely to continue in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Odisha, and Jharkhand till June 6.
