Chandigarh: Haryana Health Department has decided to take up biological and environment friendly methods like use of Gambusia and Guppy fish as larvicidal measures, in addition to other methods, to control malaria in the State.
A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of State level malaria committee held under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Urvashi Gulati.
The representatives of various departments like Forests, Agriculture, Education, Public Health, Irrigation and Urban Development were present in the meeting, an official release said on Tuesday.
Gulati reviewed the situation of malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis and discussed various strategies to be adopted to control malaria, especially in the district of Panipat, Karnal and Sonipat where a large number of cases of malaria were reported.
A new integrated disease surveillance project has been launched in Haryana, which will monitor the trends of various diseases including malaria, dengue and Japanese encephalitis in the state.
The project will help in early identification and control of outbreak of any disease in the State.
