Gifts for mothers on breast-feeding drive

The Health and Family Welfare Department has launched a month-long campaign on the importance of breast feeding under ‘Amma Kongu’ programme on the occasion of  World Breast Feeding week which is celebrated every year from August 1 to 7.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Department Praveen Prakash said, the department has started the ‘Amma Kongu’ programme as 47 percent of the mothers are not  breast feeding to their children in the state and children are suffering from malnutrition.

“We conduct various awareness programmes to reach 100 pc breast feeding in this month with help of Anganwadi workers and SHGs in districts. Moreover, we will give various gifts to all the mothers across the state for encouraging breast feeding,” he said.

The commissioner further said, “chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will greet women who attained motherhood during this month through congratulatory cards and gifts.” CM directed the district medical health officers to give top priority for filling up 700 vacant doctor posts in government hospitals and health centres in all the districts.
