HYDERABAD: Sleuths of the Task Force have arrested a man while he was purchasing diesel that was siphoned off from municipal corporation vehicles by drivers. According to the police, the Task Force police, on a tip-off, nabbed the man while carrying the diesel pilfered from GHMC vehicles which dump garbage at the dumping yard near the Krishan Kant Park in Yousufguda in the city on Friday. Police also seized 490 litres of diesel stored in plastic containers. DCP (Task Force) Ch Ram Chander said the accused, Wajid Khan alias Attarullah Khan, a car driver, is a resident of Masjid-e-Umar, Sri Ram Nagar, Jubilee Hills. He used to buy pilfered diesel from the drivers of GHMC garbage vehicles at a price less than that charged by oil company dealers. On coming to know that the municipal drivers were ready to sell pilfered diesel even in large quantities regularly, Khan struck a deal with them to buy diesel from them at Rs. 30 per litre for selling it to needy cab and auto drivers.He would siphon off diesel from GHMC vehicles into plastic cans with the help of a plastic pipe, and load the cans into a Maruti Omni van bearing No. AP 09 R 2835 that is specially modified for transporting and selling the diesel to needy customers. He would collect about 500 litres daily from GHMC vehicles and sell the same to cab/auto drivers at Rs 40 per litre. And he had been doing this illegal operation along with another cab driver and some autorickshaw drivers for the past three months. Khan, along with the seized property of 490 litres of diesel and Rs. 11,000 in cash, was handed over to the Jubilee Hills police.
