Beijing: Long distance runner and multiple gold medallist Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopian has said that he now regrets giving the marathon event at the Beijing Olympics a miss.
Just before the Beijing Games started the Ethiopian, suffering from asthma, had decided that he would not participate in the marathon event due to China's pollution problems.
But with the weather not proving to be much an issue, Gebrselassie now says he regrets his decision.
"I was here in February, I didn't see no blue sky," Gebrselassie said. "Since I came here everything is perfect. They should tell us."
He had finished a dismal sixth in the 10,000m event which was won by his countryman Kenenisa Bekele for his his second straight title.
Gebrselassie had won the 10,000m at the 1996 and 2000 Games.
