CHENNAI: The range of toy brands sold in India is set to welcome a new member to the family. ‘Giggle’s, Indian toy brand Funskool’s first major domestic range of safe non-toxic products that meet international quality requirements, will be hitting the market by the end of the month. The range is specially targeted towards infants and pre-schoolers.Funskool India, a joint venture between tyre major MRF and Hasbro Inc, USA, has decided to focus on developing its own brands for the domestic and export markets. It has been representing some of the top toy brands of the world like LEGO, Takara of Japan and Ravensburger of Germany through exclusive distribution rights for India. The company also has licence arrangements with Walt Disney, Warner Bros and Nickelodeon. Funskool has tied up with Siku of Germany for its range of die-cast and scale model vehicles and with New Bright, a world leader in radio-controlled vehicles. The company said it would aggressively scout for opportunities to enter into distribution agreements with some larger international toy brands.The company has registered a turnover of over Rs 100 crore in the last fiscal year, registering a growth in business of at least 30 per cent.Funskool’s two manufacturing plants in Goa and Ranipet provide the company with the advantage of competitive pricing compared to other brands dependent on imports from China, a company release said. The rising cost of labour in China was pushing toy prices up providing an edge to companies that manufacture their products in India.
