CHENNAI: A host of stars were present at a musical night held recently. The Musical Nite was a fund-raising programme for kids affected with thalassemia.The event witnessed stalwarts from the music industry such as the legendary music director M S Viswanathan, and M Balamuralikrishna, the Carnatic music doyen to name a few. Several cine playback singers present on the occasion were Vani Jayram, S P Shailaja, Tippu, Kovai Murali, Kalpana, Ananthu and Mukesh, and Airtel Super Singer winners Sai Charan and Krishna Murthy. They enthralled the audience with a few lilting numbers.But the highlight of the event was actor Arya, who is also the brand ambassador of the Thalassemia Project initiated by the Rotary Clubs of Chennai Galaxy and Chennai Port City. Justice R S Ramanathan, High Court Judge, spoke about the importance of coming together for a social cause. R Nataraj, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, and Abhirami Ramanathan, Past District Governor of Rotary, were also present for the musical event.The Rotary Clubs of Chennai Galaxy and Chennai Port City launched their project Siranjeevi. The project will identify blood donors, purchase medicines for thalassemic children, support completely or partially for bone marrow transplants and organise awareness campaigns in the city.C Muthusamy, President, Rotary Club of Chennai Port City, said, children with thalassemia need to undergo frequent blood transfusions and have to be under life-long medication. Dr Revathy Raj, Consultant, Paediatric Haemato Oncologist, said, the proceeds from the event will be used to meet the expenses of bone marrow transplants of thalassemic children. This event will surely make a huge difference in their lives.
