The Hanumanthanagar police have arrested four persons, including a KSRTC conductor (suspended), for allegedly stealing UPS batteries installed at ATM centres.

The accused are Narasimha alias Narasimharaju, 32, Nagaraja, 22, Erappa, 37, and Shivakumar, 59. Police said as the number of UPS battery theft cases were on a rise in south division, a special team was formed to nab the thieves. The police interrogated Narasimha, who was in prison in connection with a similar case, and based on his details, the other accused were nabbed.
“Their modus-operandi was to identify ATM centres which did not have security guards. Later, they went to the centres in the wee hours and committed the thefts. With their arrest, five cases registered in Hanumanthanagar police station, four in Basavanagudi, three in Chamrajpet, two each in Girinagar and C K Achkattu, five in Banashankari and other cases, a total of 24 cases, have been solved,” the police explained.
“All the accused were once security guards. Narasimha had come to the city and was a cook. Later, he worked as a security guard at ATM centres, where he learnt how to install and remove UPS batteries from ATM machines. Another accused Shivakumar was a dismissed bus conductor,” they stated.
