New Delhi: Veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee is in Intensive Care Unit at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, following kidney failure and heart complications. Currently, he is on ventilator support and his condition is said to be critical. He is 84.
"There has been no significant change in his condition. He remains critical and is in the ICU on ventilatory support. He is responding to the treatment but it is too early to take a positive or negative stand on his health," Vaishali Rajpara
Administrative Officer of Lilavati hospital said.
The top director, known for his family-centric films, has been on dialysis for nearly two years.
He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after his heartbeat became erratic and his blood pressure dropped.
Mukherjee, a Dada Saheb Phalke awardee began directing films in 1957. Amongst his best-known works is the Amitabh-Jaya Bachchan-Dharmendra starrer Chupke Chupke, Anand, Abhimaan and Khubsoorat. The last film Mukherjee directed was Jhooth Bole Kauva Kaate, in 1997.
He has three daughters and a son. His granddaughters Tapur and Tupur Chatterjee are well-known models.
