BANGALORE: Those who have filed their Income Tax (I-T) returns through the income tax department’s eportal will start receiving their refunds from July.This announcement was made by Sanjay Verma, Commissioner(IT), Central Processing Unit (CPC), at the state-level conference of the Southern Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India here on Sunday.He said this year alone more than 84 lakh IT returns had been filed online in among 3.4 crore expected returns across the country.Announcing new decisions, he said the “technology- enabled tax-payer friendly forms” Sahaj and Sugam for filing I-T returns would be available for purchase very soon. “There are talks to make these forms available for as low as `5. People should take care to only use these forms and not black and white copies for the forms or download the forms for they are customised to suit our data entry processes,” he said.He advised chartered accountants and others filing I-T returns to get a digital signature to make the process safe. “The announcement will be out soon that it is mandatory for companies filing IT returns with huge refunds to use digital signature,” he said.Officials explained that in spite of dispatching 43 lakh refunds, around four lakh refunds failed because of inaccurate or incomplete data in the forms. They hoped this will be avoided in future.
