New Delhi/Washington: Nearly a fortnight after A Peter Burleigh moved in here as charge d'affaires of the US embassy, an American foreign policy magazine said Tim Roemer, the former Democrat Congressman from Indiana, will be the new US envoy to India.
Roemer will be nominated to be US ambassador to India, the Washington-based Foreign Policy magazine said in a webpost.
The 52-year-old Roemer, an ex-member of the 9/11 Commission, is currently the president of Center for National Policy (CNP), a Washington-based think tank.
In New Delhi, Indian officials said they had not been told about the appointment of a new US envoy. "There is no official announcement. We have no information about it," said a spokesperson of the US embassy.
Roemer, whose name was doing the rounds for the post of CIA director, serves on the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, says his bio-data posted on the CNP website.
Roemer, who represented Indiana's Third District from 1991 to 2003, was one of the early backers of US President Barack Obama and is said to have played a key role in his electoral victory in Indiana.
He is also associated with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy's Presidential Task Force on Combating the Ideology of Radical Extremism, and the National Parks Second Century Commission.
