Energy: Staff to be enlightened

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The buildings in Thiruvananthapuram selected for a comprehensive energy efficiency programme that would find them a place among Kerala’s most energy efficient structures are, the State Assembly, Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, Regional Cancer Centre, Mascot Hotel, Vydyuthi Bhavan, SBT, Mail Business Centre, State Planning Board HQ, RGCB, Telecom Exchange building, Vikas Bhavan, GPO, College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram.Buildings in other parts of the state are, Shakthan Thampuran Arcade in Thrissur, BSNL’s Panampilly Nagar Telephone Exchange, Kozhikode Government Medical College, Finance Towers in Ernakulam, High Court complex in Ernakulam and the civil stations in Thrissur,  Ernakulam and Kozhikode.Raising the awareness among the employees about the benefits of energy efficiency is part of the initiative.This includes simple actions such as switching off lights and fans after use, EMC officials said.  EMC, which is the Bureau of Energy Efficiency’s (BEE) nodal agency in the state for energy conservation initiatives, had undertaken the audits of the 22 buildings as part of a nationwide initiative of the BEE covering 500 buildings.
