NELLORE: With only a few hours to go for polling for the Kovur by-election, all main contenders are focusing on behind the screen operations to ensure their victory at any cost. The seizure of 2000 wrist watches, 2000 silver lamps, 80 grams of nose studs and ear rings, silver anklets worth several lakhs by police from a YSRC activist in Mypadu village of Indukurpet mandal and the recent seizure of Rs 1 cr from the house of a former TDP corporator amply reveal that the parties are now focusing on wooing the voters with gifts and cash, even as unconfirmed reports say that in many villages voters were offered Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 per family. Interestingly, the Congress which all along has been maintaining a low profile during the campaigning, compared to the YSRC and TDP is now said to be in the forefront in wooing voters with money and the TDP was following suit. The TDP which is concentrating on fishermen villages is said to have offered `50 lakh for development works in the village. With the stakes being very high for all main contenders i.e. Congress, TDP and YSRC, their cadre are virtually on their toes to lure the voters with cash or kind. Tension prevailed in Rebala following a altercation between YSRC and Congress activists when the latter tried to mobilise voters.
