Washington: Couples who bicker constantly not only hurt their relationship but also their hearts.
According to a study by psychologists from the University of Utah, people in tense relationships tend to suffer from clogged arteries, which eventually will damage the heart.
The scientists used video cameras to observe 150 married couples, all aged between 60 and 70.
Couples were asked to discuss touchy topics like money, childrearing or trip planning.
Computers tracked whether participants' arteries were hardening and at which rates.
The results showed that men and women literally take these fights to heart. On an average, men fared worse in relationships where one partner, regardless of which, was dominant.
Women did worse if their partner was hostile or if they themselves had undesirable personality traits.
