Did Sandip Ghosh Order RG Kar Renovation Day After Doctor's Rape-Murder? BJP Shares Viral Letter

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shared a purported letter signed by former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh ordering renovation near the institution’s seminar hall where the body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was allegedly, raped and murdered was found on August 9. The viral letter ordering repair work was dated August 10, just a day later.

Several news reports have already been making claims Ghosh had ordered renovation near the seminar hall, fanning speculations of evidence tampering.

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Mazumdar took to social media platform X to share the letter that ordered renovation citing a lack of proper and separate doctors’ rooms and washrooms.

“The order, signed by Sandip Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Medical College, is dated August 10, just one day after the victim’s death. Despite allegations from colleagues and protesters about tampering with the crime scene, the Police Commissioner denied it,” Mazumdar wrote in his post.

The memo – written to the executive engineers of several departments of the public works department, Kolkata, by Sandip Ghosh – said the hospital authorities wanted to repair the attached toilets.

The purported letter was titled, “Repair/Renovation/Reconstruction of on duty Doctors’ Rooms along with separate attached toilets in all departments of RGKMC&H, Kolkata on urgent basis”.

It read, “I would like to inform you that there are deficiency of on duty Doctors’ Rooms and separate attached toilets in various departments of RGKMC&H, Kolkata. You are hereby requested to do the needful immediately as per demand of Residents’ Doctors of RGKMC&H.”

“The issue is already discussed and resolved in the meeting with Principal Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare Government of West Bengal & and Director of Medical Education, Department of Health & Family Welfare Government of West Bengal today in the Board Room of PIE of RGKMC&H. Please do the needful immediately,” it further mentioned.

Sandip Ghosh’s Arrest & SC Plea

The anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Monday, Ghosh, in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the medical establishment during his tenure.

Ghosh was questioned for the 15th day at the agency’s Salt Lake office over the alleged rape and murder of the RG Kar hospital post-graduate trainee on August 9. After a day-long questioning by the special crime branch, the anti-corruption unit picked Ghosh up in the evening and left for the Nizam Palace office.

The ex-RG Kar head, on Wednesday, challenged the Calcutta High Court order transferring the corruption case against him to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Supreme Court. On August 23, the Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI.
