The two-day CPI(M) Politburo meet has begun in Kolkata. It will discuss the party's strategy for the five poll-bound states.

Kolkata: The CPI(M) politburo members are to meet at 1500 hrs (IST) in Kolkata on Friday. The party is expected to discuss its stand for the UPA-Left coordination meeting to be held in New Delhi on February 13.

Issues relating to privatisation of airports and Iran and CPI(M)'s relationship with the Central government will also be taken up.

Besides discussing reports, submitted by the state committees of all election going states, Friday's meeting would approve the party's election manifestos and selection of candidates before ratification by the respective State Committees.

It is also likely to discuss strategies to make the UPA government fall in line with the supporting Left parties in future without going for drastic steps.

The two-day CPI(M) politburo meeting began in Kolkata on Thursday morning. Formulating a strategy for elections in five states, including Kerala and West Bengal, was one of the key issues discussed in the meeting.

The meeting began with the party discussing it's bold strategies for the coming assembly elections and its stand in the wake of the Centre's defiance of the Left parties on airport and Iran issues.
