KOCHI: Lashing out at the CPM for its double standards in the Wikileaks findings, the Congress on Monday stated that the Marxist party’s interest in inviting US investment had only exposed their true face. “The recent revelations had exposed the flaws in the CPM policy. The CPM should have shown the courage to own up the fact that the policy that they had been following against the US was wrong,” he said, while inaugurating the commemoration meet of Congress leader Mercy Ravi in connection with her death anniversary. Pointing out that the CPM’s anti-US policy had come to an end, he said the CPM was a party that changed its policies as per the circumstances. The Wikileaks findings only revealed that the CPM had no consistent policy with regard to FDI or investments, Chennithala said, and added that this was reflected in the opinions of Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Agreeing to Wikileaks findings that he and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had met the US consulates, Chennithala said “we had talked about our reservations that we had against the US aggression in the West Asia and also in Iran. There is nothing to hide with regard to the meetings”. Without naming anyone or any organisation, Chennithala said there was a move to weaken the democratic system in the country, which could only lead to apolitical concepts in society. “It is not a good trend. Apolitical mentality was a threat to Parliamentary democracy. There are some moves from certain corners to destabilise the parliamentary set up in the country,” he said. Though there was nothing wrong in exposing corruption, it should not undermine the democratic set up in the country, he said. Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, State Excise Minister K Babu, MLAs from the district and various other leaders were present at the function.
