Barcelona: Briton David Coulthard endured a qualifying nightmare on Saturday ahead of his 200th Formula One race.

The Scot will start on the back row of the Spanish Grand Prix grid after crashing out in the first session.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the car's water system had lost pressure.

"Something failed at the rear of the car and it just went away from me," confirmed Coulthard, who made his debut with Williams at the same Circuit de Catalunya in 1994.

"I think we were in really good shape this morning, but we just need to take it on the chin and see what we can do in the race."

Sunday will make Coulthard only the eighth driver in Formula One history to reach the 200 race mark.

Italian Riccardo Patrese holds the record of 256 starts.
