CID probing deaths of 2 boys at spiritual guru's institute.

Ahmedabad: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Gujarat Police suspects “black magic” at spiritual guru Asaram Bapu's institution in Ahmedabad.

The CID became suspicious while probing the deaths of two boys, Dipesh and Abhishekh Waghela, at Asaram Bapu's gurukul (education institute) last year.

"Some disciples of Asaram knew about it and were trying to conceal the information," said an affidavit filed by the State CID in the Gujarat High Court.

H B Rajput, the police officer investigating the case, in an affidavit filed on Thursday, said he reached his conclusions after a lie detection test of three disciples of Asaram.

The disciples, Minketan Patra, Vikas Khemka and Uday Sanghani, were present in the ashram when the two boys died mysteriously, said Rajput’s affidavit.

The CID has not yet named any person as accused in the deaths of the two boys. The deaths of the two boys sparked protests against Asaram’s institute and led the state government to set up a probe commission headed by retired Justice D K Trivedi.

The next hearing of the case is scheduled for July 15 in the court of Justice H N Devani.

Parents of the boys have filed a petition demanding that the probe be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation. S H Iyer, advocate for a petitioner, alleged the state government was not probing the deaths carefully.
