BURLA: Maa Sarla Self Help Labour and Transport Co-operative Society Limited on Sunday began loading and transportation of coal at the Lingaraj mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) with 12 tippers and one pay loader. The cooperative society comprises residents of Laxmanpur village in the periphery of Bharatpur Mines of MCL. A release from MCL said the contract was awarded on the basis of a decision taken by the MCL board. The board had authorised the Chief General Manager to directly award work up to an annual value of `10 crore, to any cooperative society formed by the project affected persons. The contract, initially awarded for a year, can be extended up to five years on satisfactory performance. Chairman-cum-Managing Director of MCL, A N Sahay said the company would directly award transportation contracts to cooperative societies with over 80 per cent PAP members.
