The minimum rebate given on the commodities is 18 per cent.“Thiruvananthapuram district has the highest number of outlets (859) while Thrissur district grossed the highest turnover with transactions worth Rs 15.60 crore. The sales from the 14 district-level fairs touched Rs 125.60 crore while Triveni Super Markets contributed with Rs 46.44 crore and Nanma stores, which work directly under the Consumerfed, netted in Rs 9.06 crore during the period,’’ Joy Thomas said.Of the total turnover, the gross collection from 13 items on which subsidy is given was Rs 145.29 crore while sales from the nonsubsidy items were pegged at Rs 35.82 crore.“We are taking all required measures to run the fairs fool-proof. Those cooperative societies, which were accused of misappropriation and corruption in the past, were sanctioned outlets only after strict scrutiny this time. They were given permission to run the fairs after we were convinced that they would rectify the mistakes and would not indulge in any malpractices,’’ Riji G Nair said.Vegetable Fair: The exclusive fairs for vegetables, launched by the Consumerfed from June 27 to stem spiraling prices, have also exceeded expectations through its 221 outlets. As many as 15 items are sold with a rebate of 30 per cent compared to the open market prices. The gross turnover has touched Rs 3.90 crore so far.
