ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the novels of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai gave wide acclaim to Malayalam in world literature. He was speaking after inaugurating the concluding ceremony of the birth centenary of Thakazhi at Shankaramangalam, the hometown of the novelist, near here on Tuesday.The novels of Thakazhi journeyed into the history and culture of Kerala. The characters in his novels were original depictions of the Kuttanadan society, Chandy said. Thakazhi Memorial chairman Thakazhi Shankara Narayanan presided over the function.Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph inaugurated the website about Thakazhi.The Chief Minister felicitated actors Sheela and KPAC Lalitha who donned various roles in the films based on the novels of Thakazhi. Kodikunnil Suresh MP, District Collector V Ratheesan and district panchayat president Pratibha Hari spoke. Thomas Chandy MLA inaugurated a family meet.C Gowridasan Nair presided over the function. A documentary on Thakazhi directed by Raj Nair, the grandson of Thakazhi, was exhibited at the function. V M Sudheeran inaugurated a feast on the occasion.
