Chidambaram for vigorous pursuance of terror funding cases
The Union Home Minister praised the security establishment for the dip in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu: Patting the security establishment for the dip in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday pushed for vigorous pursuance of terror fundings cases in the state.

The terror funding cases were discussed in a high-level security meeting chaired by Chidambaram and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Other issues like security and law and order situation including measures for summer and Amarnath Yatra, rehabilitation of former militants, mechanism of return and rehabilitation of youths of J&K and employment generation were also discussed.

There was presentation of reports on the all the issues which were throughly discussed in the meeting, a senior official said.

The Union Home Minister praised the security establishment for the dip in terrorism in J&K and asked the authorities to ensure that terror funding cases are pursued vigorously.

The issue of troops reduction also came up for discussion in view of the improvement of the security situation and Chidambaram indicated that it will take place gradually.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) issue was not discussed in the meeting. However, Chidambaram, who reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his day-long visit, told reporters his ministry has sought amendments in AFSPA which were pending before the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

"Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed three amendments in AFSPA. They are under consideration of CCS," he said but did not elaborate on the nature of the amendments.

On the report of the Centre's interlocutors on Kashmir, he said it would be made public after Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) considers it.

"Interlocutors' report, as I said in Delhi, will be made public after the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has considered the matter", Chidambaram said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has pitched for making the report public, holding debate on it and thereafter implementing the recommendations.
