KOTTAYAM: NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair scoffed at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s claim that the Indian Union Muslim League had held five cabinet ranks in the previous UDF ministry, too.He said that the Nair Service Society had raised its voice not for the organisation alone but for the majority community as a whole. He was speaking to Express from the NSS headquarters at Perunna on Thursday.“The previous UDF government had around 100 seats in the Assembly. Now, with only 72 seats, the situation has changed and to retain power the UDF has to offer ministerial berths to four parties with one MLA each. So, the major parties in the front-the Congress, the IUML and the Kerala Congress have to suffer equally,” Sukumaran Nair said.He said the NSS had not asked the UDF not to give the fifth ministerial berth to the IUML. We had only demanded to resolve the communal imbalance which would occur after that, Nair said. “If the imbalance is not resolved, a communal polarisation would happen in the state. The NSS has shown the courage to point out the issue,” he said.“The NSS does not need any Cabinet berth, MP or MLA seat,” he said adding that the organisation will continue to raise its voice against injustice.
