Cells to watch explosive sales in districts: IG

MADURAI: With investigators finding that the pipe bomb planted to kill senior BJP leader L K Advani near Madurai contained ‘Power Gel 90’, an explosive substance used in stone quarries, the police  have decided to form an ‘Explosive Sales Monitoring cell’ in all the districts of the State.South Zone Inspector General of Police Rajesh Das told reporters here on Tuesday that the department would soon submit a proposal to the Tamil Nadu government to get approval to set up the  explosive sales monitoring cell. “We have evolved a modern system to keep a close watch on the sales of the explosives across the state. The explosive sales monitoring cell would be headed by a police personnel, who would co-ordinate with the manufacturers and the buyers of the explosives,” Rajesh Das said. Henceforth,  the sales of explosives will be made  online and the explosive sales monitoring cell will keep a close watch on all the purchasers besides collecting background details of him, he said adding that the vehicles that carrying the explosives after purchase would also be monitored.
