KOCHI: Celebrity divorce cases have always stolen the limelight and the year 2011 was no exception.The marriage of actor Kavya Madhavan to Nishal Chandramohan in February 2009 was a much-hyped affair but unfortunately did not last long.Though Kavya left with Nishal for Kuwait, where he was working, she returned home in June and did not go back thereafter.The Ernakulam Family Court granted divorce to the estranged couple in May 2011 on a mutual petition.Though the court had sent them for counselling, both stuck to their stance that they cannot live together anymore.They filed separate affidavits which were recorded by the court. The other actor who parted ways with her husband was Jyothirmayi.The Ernakulam Family Court in September last year allowed divorce on the mutual petition filed by the actor and her husband Nishanth.Though they were sent for counselling, both were adamant on their stand.Another divorce case which got nation-wide attention was that of Prabhu Deva and Latha. The director/actor had filed for divorce for marrying actor Nayantara. The Principal Family Court in Chennai granted divorce to the couple.In 2010, actor and dubbing artist Sarita who was married to actor Mukesh about 20 years ago, approached the Family Welfare Court in Chennai seeking divorce.They had cited differences of opinion as the reason and had been living separately for a while.They were granted divource in December 2011.In 2008, actor Urvashi, married to fellow-actor Manoj K Jayan, approached the Chennai court seeking divorce. She alleged that her husband had subjected her to physical, mental and financial abuse during the four years of marriage.The couple have a daughter and the dispute over her custodianship is still going on.They were later granted divorce in 2010. A decade ago Revathi divorced actor Suresh Menon and Shanti Krishna parted ways with late actor Sreenath.
