Bengaluru: The driver of a cash van carrying Rs 1.37 crore allegedly fled with the money meant for Bank of India ATM here on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 2 PM in front of Bank of India located on KG road.
West Bangalore DCP N M Anucheth said that it happened at 1.30 PM near a Bank of Baroda branch. Four people travel in the vehicle. Two of them were the bank to collect money from the bank at the time of the incident. The driver fled with van when the third person, a security guard, stepped out for a bit.
He further told that there is no GPS tracking system in the vehicle.
The van belongs to a company specialised in collecting money from the banks and refilling ATMs. Since morning they had gone to many banks, he added. Of the Rs 1 crore 37 lakh stolen, Rs one lakh was in Rs 100 notes and rest in Rs 2000 notes, Anucheth said.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru police has formed four special teams to investigate the incident and are yet to ascertain the identity of the driver, he added.
