Kolkata: Director Goutam Ghosh?s next offing has an impressive line-up of actors including Bollywood stars Rekha and Nana Patekar.
The Hindi film titled Yatra will centre around a writer and a fictional character who is embedded within the writer's psyche and occasionally comes alive, blurring the line between the real and imaginary, Ghose said.
The fictional character called Lajwanti, to be enacted by Rekha, will thus be a blend of realism and fantasy as she will travel with the writer during his literary journey. The writer's journey will be metaphysical in nature as it will be a journey within and outside his mind.
The director indicated that the tale of exploitation of the dreams and angst of a "kept" woman, cocooned in the house of a feudal lord, will be an important component of the film but did not elaborate on the story line further.
Actress Deepti Naval will play the role of the writer?s wife. The wife is shown as an active partner in her husband's creative thoughts and will thus have her share of interaction with Lajwanti, the mystic character etched out by her husband.
Asked about the reason behind zeroing on Rekha and Nana Patekar for the lead roles, Ghosh said he felt Rekha wholly embodied the persona of Lajwanti due to her mystic celluloid image, while Nana could bring alive the predilections and feelings of a creative person having such a vast repertoire of different roles.
Patekar has reportedly taken a few days' break to get into the skin of the writer's character.
Ghosh wants to reach out to a larger audience and hence is making the film in Hindi. While most of the shooting of the film is being done at Ramoji film city in Hyderabad, the crew will return to Kolkata to do post-shooting work.
The film will be the fourth Hindi venture for the director after Paar, Gudia and Patang.
