Bhopal: An embarrassed Bharatiya Janata Party shunted out its Madhya Pradesh farmers’ cell officebearer on Saturday after a video of him referring to farmers as “thieves” surfaced on social media.
The video has surfaced days before farmers are slated to launch a statewide agitation on June 1. The agitating farmers have been demanding 1.5 times income to input cost and loan waiver among other things.
BJP leader Hakam Singh Anjana’s anti-farmer rant was in response to a question posed to him about why farmers were unhappy with the MP government.
The BJP leader can be heard saying, “These traitors are going on shouting about June 1. What will they do? I am also a farmer and we are with Shivraj Singh Chouhan.”
Anjana can be heard insulting farmers, calling them names and saying they are dishonest. Then he heaps praises on CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on his work for the peasant community.
“The state government is offering Rs 800 per quintal of garlic and the farmers are resorting to theft as those who did not sow this crop have also registered themselves with the mandis. Traders are earning Rs 2 on this while the farmers are getting Rs 6 per kg,” he said.
The MP government was also offering a handsome price for grams (chana), he said.
Claiming that the farmers “won’t mend their ways ever”, Anjana voices his support to beating up farmers with shoes, saying they deserve it.
“Ek tarikh, ek tarikh… kya kar loge ek tarikh ko?” he says laughing at the camera and add, “We are all with Shivraj Singh Chouhan.”
As the video went viral, BJP state head Rakesh Singh expelled Anjana from the party and issued him a show cause notice.
