New Delhi: While addressing a Samajwadi Party meet in Lucknow on Wednesday, Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan said that her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, did not want her to join politics.
"My husband did not want me to join politics and had expressed reservations when I received an invitation to join the Samajwadi Party," PTI quoted Jaya as saying.
"But since the invitation was extended by none other than father-like Mulayam Singh Yadav and brother-like Amar Singh, he (Amitabh) could not refuse," she added.
Jaya added that since Mulayam and Amar Singh had kept their promise — made to Amitabh Bachchan — of taking care of her, she felt that her decision to join the SP was a wise one. "SP is the party of real men and it does what it says," PTI quoted her as saying.
At the meet, Jaya Bachchan urged party workers to gear up and give the Congress a tough time in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
While blaming the Congress leadership of being completely de-linked with workers, Jaya added that the Congress is pursuing the policy of Raja aur rank (rich and poor).
