New Delhi: Bollywood sensation Aishwariya Rai Bachchan has landed in trouble.
A police complaint has been registered against her and several others including Suzlon company Chairman Tulsibai Tanti for illegal purchase of land for setting up a windmill at Nandurbar district in North Maharashtra.
The complaint was lodged last night by Anand Lala Thakare, who alleged that his land was purchased and illegally transferred in Suzlon company's name.
The actress is a shareholder in the company, which is setting up a wind power project at village Dhandane in Nandurbar district.
Apart from Rai and Tanti, the others against whom the complaint has been lodged are Mangal Surgeon, Mohan Jawan, Jayant Bhosale, Anil Gangavane, Sharansingh Siddhusingh, Harish Panth, district collector and share holders.
Suzlon has set up its project at Nandurbar and Dhule districts.
Suzlon Energy Ltd had acquired land for its windmill projects from the tribals at rates as low as Rs 7,000 per acre and then allegedly sold it to celebrities like Aishwarya Rai, as well as Twinkle Khanna and Sachin Tendular for amounts running into lakhs of rupees.
The issue was brought up in the Maharashtra Assembly some time ago and non conventional energy minister Vinay Kore ordered a probe into the same.
In defence of the allegations Suzlon has said it has helped India to get close to $2 billion dollars in foreign exchange.
Suzlon which was established in 1994 and is the fifth largest wind energy company. Its modern technology is being used in Europe and America and it has helped India to get close to $2 billion dollars in foreign exchange.
Suzlon has helped in countering Maharashtra's power crisis by providing 1352 megawatts of electricity through wind energy. It says some anti-social elements want to malign the image of the company because of vested interests.
The Maharashtra government has formed a committee to inquire into this. Suzlon has said that it will fully co-operate with any inquiry.
