With more than 50 people falling ill due to viral fevers and other diseases in Malyam village in Kanekal mandal in Anantapur district, the district medical and health authorities were forced to send a 15-member health team to the village on Thursday.

The village with a population of 5,000 has more than 50 people suffering from various disease like chikungunya and other viral fevers. With no proper medical facilities in the village many of them went to corporate hospitals in Bellary town in Karnataka for better treatment. The poor who could not afford treatment in private hospitals remained at home. Speaking to Express, district medical and health officer P Venkataramana said they have sent a 15-member health team including three doctors to attend to those suffering from fever.

Explaining that they have also sent the required medicines along with the team, he said the medical team will stay put in the village until the situation comes under control. However, he asked the villagers not to panic stating that they are only seasonal diseases and they would control the spreading of the disease.
