All's not quite right with Left in Kolkata
The urban middle class in Kolkata is yet to shower the Left Front with their complete faith, as proved in the Assembly election results.

Kolkata: The Left Front had a roller-coaster ride, swamping the West Bengal Assembly election with a four-fifth majority. But the urban middle class in the capital is yet to shower them with their complete faith.

The districts had done with the Front managing to keep 10 seats to its kitty out of the 21.

While the CPI(M) bagged seven seats, its other partners, RSP and Forward Bloc, romping home in one seat each. The Front-backed RJD also notched a seat in its favour.

However, the CPI failed to open its account in the capital.

Most of the districts in West Bengal had completely rejected Trinamool Congress. But the scene was different in Kolkata where the party chalked up victories in seven seats.

Cossipore, Jorasanko, Chowringhee, Rashbehari Avenue, Tollygunje Ballygunje and Burtola Assembly seats went to the Trinamool Congress, while Sealdaha, Kabitirtha and Bowbazar went to the Congress.

Jorabagan, Entally, Taltala, Beliaghata, Vidyasagar, Manicktala and Belgachia West were bagged by the CPI(M), Dhakuria went to the RSP and Shyampukur to the Forward Bloc.

Non-Bengali-dominated Burrabazar went to the Left Front-supported RJD.

The Trinamool Congress candidates Tarak Banerjee won from Cossipore, Dinesh Bajaj from Jorasanko, Tapas Paul from Alipore, Sadhan Pandey from Burtola, Javed Khan from Ballygunge, Sovandeb Chattopadhaya from Rashbehari Avenue and Subrata Bakshi from Chowringhee Assembly constituency.

Forward Bloc candidate Jiban Saha won from Shyampukur, while Kshiti Goswami wrested the Dhakuria seat from the Trinamool Congress.

CPI(M) candidates Parimal Biswas won from Jorabagan, while Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim from Entally, Debesh Das from Taltala, Manabendra Mookherjee from Beliaghata, Anadi Sahoo from Vidyasagar, Rupa Bagchi from Manicktala and Rajdeo Goala from Belgachia West.

Left Front-supported RJD candidate Md Sohrab won from Burrabazar Assembly constituency.

Congress candidates Sudip Bandopadhaya wrested Bowbazar seat, while Ram Pyare Ram won from Kabitirtha and veteran leader Somendranath Mitra from Sealdaha.
