THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Alappuzha has emerged as the front-runner to host the next state conference of the CPM while Kozhikode or Kannur is likely to host the 19th party congress. The venues will be finalised at the state committee meeting which will be held here on July 1 and 2.The Central Committee meeting held in Hyderabad last week decided to hold the 19th party congress in Kerala. However, there was no decision on the venue. Following the decision, informal talks have begun among state leaders regarding the venue. The CPM state secretariat which will meet here on June 30 will suggest the venues and the state committee meeting, which will begin the next day, will finalise the venues.“Alappuzha and Kozhikode are front-runners for hosting state conference and party congress, respectively. Kollam and Kannur are also being considered,” said a senior CPM leader. The strong support the party received from the public even during this year’s Assembly poll is the major reason that has put Alappuzha and Kollam in the shortlist. Kozhikode was shortlisted aiming to rejuvenate the party machinery in the entire Malabar.
