Lucknow: A day ahead of the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit hearing in the apex court, the Babri Masjid Action Committee is all geared up with “necessary preparation and paper work”, even as the Shia Waqf Board’s decision to stake claim in the ongoing litigations has caused some hiccups.
“All the statements are ready and the paper work is almost done and has been submitted. We are all set for the hearing. UP Shia Board’s chairman Waseem Rizvi has a habit of staying in news by stirring a controversy and probably that’s the reason the Board got into the Babri case. However, he does not have any role to play and claims made by him will not affect the Supreme Court proceedings,” said senior lawyer Zafaryab Jilani.
In July last year, Rizvi had issued a statement saying that Waqf Masjid Mir Baqi popularly known as Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was built by Mir Baqi, a Shia from Persia, during the reign of Babar.
“Shia Waqf Board claimed that they lost the ownership on the mosque as they could not put up a strong defence. But do they really have a right? The Faizabad high court had also denied their stake in 1946. I am sure their affidavit will not have any importance in the apex court as well,” Jilani said.
Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhawan, Raju Ramchandran along with Shakeel Ahmed Sayeed and a couple of other renowned counsel will appear for the Babri Masjid Action Committee.
On the other side, Ram Lalla Virajman, Nirmohi Akhara and Hindu Mahasabha will present their case. S K Jain and Ranjit Lal Verma will argue for the Nirmohi Akhara; Harishanker Jain and Vishnu Shanker Jain for the Hindu Mahasabha; and K Parasharan for the Ram Lalla Virajman. Lawyer of Ram Lalla Virajman, Madan Mohan Pandey, has been made the government counsel and will represent the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Supreme Court had begun its final hearing in the centuries-old dispute on December 5 last year and posted the matter for hearing on February 8.
In September 2010, the Allahabad High Court had ordered a three-way division of the disputed 2.77 acre area in Ayodhya among the All India Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
