New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday slammed the Haryana government over slashing the compensation rate under the new land acquisition policy by half.

In a letter to Haryana CM ML Khattar, AAP leader and party's state in-charge Yogendra Yadav has said the party will oppose the new land policy and hold agitations across the state on February 21.

Yadav has also asked the state government to immediately stop acquiring land under the Land Acquisition Act and withdraw "anti-farmer provisions" of the act.

Pointing out a case of 16 villages of Rewari district, where land has been acquired in December 2014 and solacium of just 30 percent was granted, he questioned whether the Haryana government will also have the same policy for future land acquisition programmes.

Yadav said as per the new rules of the Khattar government, dated October 28, 2014, the land compensation will reduce drastically. "Under the provisions laid out by the previous state government (of the Congress), minimum floor rate was determined so that areas where land prices were less, could get some relief. But under the new notification from your government, even this provision has been removed," Yadav said.

Apart from the amended provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, Yadav also slammed the government over power cuts. "In your poll assurances, the BJP promised to have 24-hour electricity. After the formation of your (BJP) government formed government in the state, the farmers were facing a get electricity only for 11 hours, as compared to 14 hours earlier," he said.

He also attacked the government for not taking adequate measures for providing urea to the farmers and not giving 50 per cent of Minimum Support Price (MSP) as promised. Being a neighbouring state of Delhi, Haryana has a large number of AAP volunteers. Although the party did not contest the Delhi assembly polls, it has plans to be a major force in the state in next five years.
