BFlat and Radio Indigo will present an exclusive performance by staff and alumni of Berklee School of Music, Boston, Global Music Initiative, Delhi with Tarun Balani Collective - Modern/World Jazz on July 9 at 8.30 pm.Drummer/Composer Tarun Balani (Berklee, GMI) brings together a collective of artistes/ musicians, aspiring to create a sound palette beyond limitations. The music of the collective represents Balani’s vision as a composer, drawing from a world of influences, finding its expression in the modern jazz idiom.Tarun Balani is a magnetic drummer, percussionist, composer and a music educator from New Delhi. Currently studying at Berklee College of music.He has worked as a drummer for bands like Advaita, Incognito Artistes Unlimited and has been the first call drummer for Indian artistes like Faridkot, Ujwal Nagar, Suhail Khan, Donn Bhatt and Sajid Akhbar. Tarun is also the drummer for Aditya Balani group, which is an upcoming world jazz quintet based in Boston, USA.With Collective, Tarun Balani will bring together a collective of artistes/musicians, aspiring to create a sound palette beyond limitations.The music of the collective represents Tarun’s vision as a composer, drawing from a world of influences, finding it’s expression in the modern jazz idiom.His dedication towards teaching and contributing to the music society made him the youngest faculty at the most prestigious music school in Delhi, The Performer’s Collective School Of Music. He has been teaching there since 2003. Tarun is also a prominent member of Music Basti which was started in 2008 to work with and empower street children through music in New Delhi. It focuses on helping the children to develop selfidentity, value orientation and attitude. Along side this, it endeavours to join together community needs of children at risk, particularly street children and urban slum children, with the efforts of the music community.Tarun works as a volunteer, conducts workshops and also composes music for many of the promotion films and concerts involving these children.Since coming to Berklee in Spring 2007, Tarun has been able to further develop his voice as a world jazz drummer along with studying film composition, studying with prominent faculty members like Jamey Haddad, has helped him evolve into a musician of a high calibre.Bruno Raberg (Sweden) who will be performing at BFlat is a highly reputed bass player and composer from the US. The jazz musician is currently teaching double bass at the Berklee School of Music, Boston. He has played with people like Wayne Shorter, Ben Monder, Bob Minzter to name a few The ensemble will also feature four of the finest young performer/composers from India, who have studied at the Berklee School of Music, Boston and who also teach at the Global Music Institute, Delhi.
