THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A battery technology that promises to be an ideal energy saver has been brought out by Certes Innovative Solutions, an incubated company at Technopark-TBI (Technology Business Incubator). The battery that could generate ten times the original output of an ordinary battery was launched by Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark, here on Saturday. The battery has been named Astrac (Advanced Segmented Technology-based Randomly Replicated Chargeable Cells). Vishnu V Nath, Chief Technical Officer and Project Head for Astra, said that the battery could increase the efficiency and performance of electric and hybrid cars up to 3,000 km. "Normally, we need to charge a car battery up to eight hours to run it for 300 km. With Astrac, the car can run for nearly 3,000 km when charged for the same time,’’ he said. He added that the battery technology can be used for mobile phone chargers as well and could highly reduce environmental pollution.Speaking on the occasion, Mervin Alexander lauded the company for having come up with such a path-breaking innovation. "It is the honour of Technopark to incubate companies that could generate such brilliant concepts and products,’’ he said.Certes Innovative Solutions is now planning to produce the battery on a commercial basis.
