KURNOOL: Three persons reportedly died and 20 others suffered injuries during stampede at Saleswara jatara in Mahbubnagar district. There was a heavy turnout for the annual 3-day jatara held during Chaitra Pournami. The Saleswara Swamy temple is near Srisailam temple and surrounded by forest.The jatara venue is located between huge rocks and covered with greenery. Being interspersed with waterfalls, it serves a true summer holiday spot.Devotee rush was witnessed from Friday night itself and it reportedly led to stampede. One person died on Friday night while one other, Purushottam Reddy of Revali village in Gopalpet mandal died on Saturday morning.People in the village said that 20 others were also injured in the stampede.But Acchampet CI Pratap said that they do not have any information about the stampede. “Police personnel went to the spot. The cell towers are not working and we are awaiting information,” he said.
