Hyderabad: The raging demand for Telangana statehood continued to rock the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly as 17 Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) members were suspended from the House for obstructing proceedings for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.
The House reverberated with slogans of 'Jai Telangana' as TRS members kept the Telangana pot boiling and stalled the business demanding a discussion on statehood issue.
Ever since the resignation of their party President K Chandrasekhar Rao and his deputy A Narendra from the UPA government, the TRS members have been continuously stalling proceedings of the Assembly, forcing its adjournment without transacting any business.
As soon as the House assembled for the day after a weekend recess, the TRS members, waving placards and raising slogans, stormed the Speaker's podium and insisted that the House take up a discussion on Telangana issue.
The Speaker, K R Suresh Reddy, first adjourned the House for half an hour amid noisy scenes. The furore showed no signs of subsiding when the House reassembled.
As the ruckus continued, the Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah moved a motion seeking suspension of the TRS members. The Speaker then announced the suspension of 17 TRS members present in the House for one day.
As the agitating members refused to leave the hall, they were bodily lifted by marshals. Later, the TRS members staged a sit-in in the Assembly premises.
