MADURAI: With 10 more nursing students suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea being admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on Sunday, the hospital administration announced that it would initiate ‘health education’ for the benefit of the students. This took the number of nursing students—who reportedly fell sick after consuming food at the GRH canteen on Friday — currently undergoing treatment at the special ward, to 24.Madurai Medical College and GRH dean Dr A Edwin said the students would be taught the importance of cleanliness and hygiene to avert such outbreaks in the future. “The illness was caused due to consumption of contaminated corporation water,” he pointed out. The entire kitchen was cleaned and the cobwebs removed, Dr Edwin informed. The caterers have been instructed to compulsorily use hand gloves and caps, he added. On Sunday, Madurai collector U Sagayam and MLA R Annadurai visited the affected nursing students and inspected the GRH hostel.
