After a passenger cab fell down a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Friday, 10 people have been reported to have lost their lives.
The accident occurred at around 1.15 am, near Battery Chashma in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban area and the vehicle had rolled down about 300 metres.
A team of police officials, UT Disaster Response Force team and civil Quick Response Team in Ramban reached the spot and soon started rescue operation.

The bodies of 10 passengers have been recovered amid heavy rains, the officials said.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences on the tragic incident. Taking to her official X account. she said, “The news of many people getting killed after a vehicle fell into a ditch in Ramban area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is very sad. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh spoke to DC Ramban, Baseer-ul-Haq after learning about the tragic road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway that led to the loss of 10 lives. “Police, SDRF and civil QRT have reached the spot. Rescue operation is going on. I’m in constant touch. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families,” the minister said.
As per identity documents found from two bodies, one of them have been identified as driver Balwan Singh, aged 47 years and Bihar resident Vipin Mukhiya.
The rescue operation is currently underway, the Ramban Police stated.
