In Andhra's Prakasam, Decorative Umbrellas For Ganesh Chaturthi Selling Like Hot Cakes

The Ganesh Chaturthi is just around the corner which is a celebration of Lord Ganesha’s birth. Devotees bring a Lord Ganesha idol to their homes, and it is decorated with a variety of valuable ornaments. A special type of decoration done on this day is an umbrella. The sales of these decorative umbrellas are increasing for the auspicious day at Ongole, Prakasam in Andhra Pradesh.

These umbrellas are especially being made and sold by traders in Andhra Pradesh. Many different varieties of decorative umbrellas are being brought and sold from Chennai as well. The umbrella gives a special, divine form to the Lord Ganesha idol in one’s home.

Hundreds of traders are making and selling umbrellas to fulfil the demand of the devotees. A lot of Muslim women and traders from Chirala, Andhra Pradesh are also making umbrellas and selling them independently.

The video shared by News18 shows crowds of customers stopping to buy the umbrellas in the market. And, it also shows the different types of umbrellas available in so many colours and decorations.

This year, Ganesh Chaturthi starts on September 19 and concludes on September 28. This day is also known as Ganeshotsav or Vinayaka Chaturthi. The festival takes place in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. The devotees celebrate the festival with a lot of enthusiasm around the country. States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Telangana are famous for their energetic celebrations for the day.

A Ganesh idol is brought home and worshipped for the next ten days. During these days, important rites and rituals take place, and Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweets are offered to the idol. On the last day, which is known as the Ananta Chaturdashi, Lord Ganesha is immersed in water in a ritual called visarjan. Processions take place for the visarjan, as it is an important part of the festival, so people devote themselves to worshipping Lord Ganesh.
