The Look
The look of a glam metal rocker can be hard to achieve. It's not so much what clothes you wear, but how you wear them. However, never underestimate the value of a pair of leather pants. They were people too, and wore jeans and t-shirts. Piling on scarves and jewelry will add the glam touch, though.
Layers are also good; the more, the better. Anything leather, shiny, sequined, or spandex will fit the look perfectly.
Tight pants are a must.
The Hair
It's called 'hair metal' for a reason. To get hair this big, you need to learn how to tease it. You take a section of your hair, grab a brush, and brush it upwards onto itself. Tease a section, spray with hairspray, and repeat in a different spot.
Once all your hair is teased and sprayed in that manner, flip your head over and spray all over.
Tip your head up and spray again. Repeat as many times as necessary. Curling your hair can work too, but the method above is a tried and true technique.
Many dyed their hair either black or white-blond, but plenty of others had natural colored hair too. It's your decision.
The Makeup
Makeup also adds a nice touch to your outfit. It was over the top; don't hold back with the makeup, and don't be afraid to use unnatural colors.
Teal eyeshadow is great. Also make sure to wear plenty of eyeliner, but not on your bottom eyelids.
Lots of eyeliner is essential.
The Music
If you want to look like a glam metal rocker, you probably are a fan of the music. But for those of you who are new to it, it makes sense to give a little background on it. Glam metal originated on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles in the 1980s. It was massively popular on MTV in the '80s, with most bands being in constant rotation.
Good bands to start with are Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi,Van Halen and Aerosmith. Then you could probably get into bands like Ratt, Skid Row, and Cinderella easier.
The Attitude
Glam rockers were androgynous in the extreme, and had to put up with a lot of flak for their look. Be tough; stand up for yourself.
Have a wild, fun attitude. Glam is just that- a fun indulgence.
