Taking a Commercial Flight to Oahu

Depart from Kahului Airport if you want to travel on a standard-sized jet. Kahului Airport (OGG) is the largest airport on Maui and the second busiest in the state of Hawaii. It is the only airport on Maui that offers flights on full-sized planes. If you get airsick or nervous on smaller aircraft, consider leaving from Kahului. Flights from Kahului leave frequently and take around 30 minutes to reach Oahu’s Honolulu International Airport. Kahului Airport is located on the northern side of Maui. It is located over 22 miles away from Lahania, and 2 miles away from Kihei. Maui's public bus system, Maui Bus, stops at Kahului Airport 7 days a week, even on holidays. Many resorts on Maui offer a shuttle service to and from Kahului Airport.

Leave from Kapalua Maui West Airport if you're coming from Lahania. Kapalua West Maui Airport (JHM) is located on the western side of Maui, only 7 minutes north of the city of Lahania. It is only served by commuter planes, and flights only depart during the daytime. A flight from Kapalua West Maui to Honolulu International takes approximately 30 minutes. Kapalua West is not served by the public bus system. Local car rental companies can arrange for private cars or for shuttles to take customers to Kapalua Maui West.

Fly out of Hana to enjoy a stopover. Hana Airport (HNM) is one of the smallest airports in Hawaii. It is located just outside of Hana Town, on the northeast corner of the island. It is only served by one commercial airline and does not offer direct flights to Honolulu. However, you can take advantage of this opportunity to visit another Hawaiian island. Spend a few hours or a few days exploring another island before flying to Oahu. The public bus system does not stop at Hana Airport. Local resorts will provide transportation to Hana Airport, but only if it's scheduled in advance. Commercial flights from Hana Airport to Hooehula Airport on the island of Molokai and to Kilua-Kona and Kamuela-Wiamena Airports on the island of Hawaii are available. All three airports also offer flights to Oahu. The state of Hawaii is hoping to expand service to and from Hana Airport in the future.
Traveling Privately to Oahu

Board a private flight to travel in luxury. If you’re willing to spend the money to charter a private flight, you can fly directly to Oahu from the airport of your choice. By chartering a flight, you save time by avoiding airport security and by immediately boarding your flight. Contact one of Hawaii's local private charter companies for information about their prices and amenities.

Schedule an air taxi for privacy at a bargain. Air taxis are a less expensive alternative to private planes. They don't usually have all of the luxuries of a private jet, but they are still small; private; and can either be scheduled in advance, or can leave on demand. Reach out to one of Hawaii's local air taxi services or contact customer service representatives at one of Maui's airports for information about prices and scheduling an air taxi. Kahulu, Kapalua West Maui, and Hana Airports are all served by air taxi services.

Charter a private boat for a unique experience. Hawaii is famous for its surf, which makes the water between the islands difficult to navigate. Because of this, there are very few boat charter services that provide transportation between the islands. However, traveling by a private boat is not impossible. Contact local boat owners by visiting one of Hawaii's harbors and ask if they are willing to make the journey from Maui to Oahu with you.
