Stock up on Pokéballs. Turtonator has a relatively average catch rate, so either great or ultra balls will likely be fine to use. However, make sure that you stock up on multiple of them, in case your first attempts at catching Turtonator are unsuccessful. You can also get a few quick balls in case you’d like to attempt to catch Turtonator earlier on in the battle.
Make sure you have some ground, rock or dragon type Pokémon on your team. Since Turtonator is a fire and dragon type, it’s weak to these types of Pokémon, so try and have at least one of these types on your team. You may also want to include a Pokémon that knows False Swipe, which will leave the affected Pokémon with 1 HP.
Know where you can find Turtonator. There is one location where you can find Turtonator in Pokémon Sun, and that’s in the grass near the Geothermal Power Plant on Blush Mountain. Be aware, however, that its encounter rate is relatively low, so you may be walking around for awhile and encountering other Pokémon before you encounter Turtonator.
Weaken the Turtonator to half health or less. This will make catching it a lot easier. Use water type moves, until it’s weakened enough where you can throw a Pokéball and catch it. Be aware if you use any moves that burn or poison a Pokémon, as it will drastically reduce Turtonator’s health, and it may faint before you can catch it.
Catch the Turtonator. Once it’s weak enough, you should be able to successfully catch it. Turtonator can now be added to your party and used in the game.
