Can You Breed Parrots in Minecraft? 2 Easy Alternatives
Parrots are one of many passive mobs in Minecraft. These colorful birds can imitate the call monsters and you can carry them around on your shoulder—and is a great choice if you want a flashy and fun pet. But how do you get more parrots if you don't want to tame them? Unfortunately, parrots cannot be bred in Minecraft. While you can't breed parrots, though, you can spawn their eggs in Creative Mode, which will let you generate as many parrots as you want. In this article we'll teach you how to get the Parrot Spawn Egg, as well as go over where you can find parrots if you don't want to cheat.
Things You Should Know
  • Parrots cannot be bred, but you can find the Parrot Spawn Egg in the Creative Inventory menu.
  • If you're on a server with cheats enabled, you can also spawn a parrot egg by using the command /give @p minecraft:parrot_spawn_egg 1.
  • If you don't want to cheat, the only way to get more parrots is to tame them in jungle biomes.

How to Get a Parrot Egg

Enter Creative Mode. In order to get a Parrot egg, you must be in Creative Mode. To enter Creative Mode, you must be on a Minecraft world that has cheats turned on, which can be done by selecting More World Options… on the main menu and toggling Allow Cheats to ON. Creative Mode can then be turned on by writing /gamemode creative in the chat window.

Look for the Parrot Spawn Egg in the Creative Inventory Menu. The location of this item differs based on which platform you're on: On Java, you can find it in the Miscellaneous menu if you're on version 1.12 to 1.19, or in the Spawn Eggs menu if you're on version 1.19.3 to 1.20. On Pocket Edition, Windows 10, and Education Edition, you can find it in the Nature menu. On the Xbox 360 version you can find it in the Miscellaneous menu, and on the Xbox One version you can find it in the Nature menu. On the PS3 you can find it in the Miscellaneous menu, and on the PS4 you can find it in two locations depending on your version: the Miscellaneous menu for version 1.52 to 1.91 and the Nature menu for version 1.14.0 to 1.19.83. On the Wii U version of the game you can find it in the Miscellaneous menu, and on the Nintendo Switch version of the game you can find it in two locations depending on your version: the Miscellaneous menu for version 1.04 to 1.11 and the Nature menu for version 1.5.0 to 1.19.83.

Alternatively, you can spawn the egg with a console command. In the text box, write /give @p minecraft:parrot_spawn_egg 1. This will spawn a parrot egg without having to look through the Creative Inventory menu. If you're using the Essentials plugin, you'll need to use this command instead: /minecraft:give @p minecraft:parrot_spawn_egg 1.

Interact with the spawn egg. Once you interact with the Parrot Spawn Egg, it will immediately hatch into a parrot.

Finding & Taming Parrots

Go to a Jungle, Sparse Jungle, or Bamboo Jungle biome. Parrots naturally spawn in these three biomes and can be found above logs, leaves, or grass blocks.

Feed the parrot seeds to try and tame it. Parrots can be tamed with wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, beetroot seeds, or torchflower seeds. Each taming attempt has a 10% chance of success. In previous versions of Minecraft, you could feed cookies to parrots to tame them. However, as chocolate is toxic to parrots in real life, feeding a cookie to a Minecraft parrot will now kill it. If you don't want to use cheats, this is the only way to obtain more parrots in Minecraft.
