PSG Midfielder Manuel Ugarte's Summer Transfer To Manchester United Not Finalised Yet

Manchester United have been reportedly been interested in roping in a midfielder during the summer transfer window. Manuel Ugarte, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defensive midfielder, has now understood to have appeared on the radar of Manchester United.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Manchester United and PSG have come closer regarding the transfer of Ugarte. Famed football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano shared his views on Ugarte’s potential move to England last month. Romano had said back then that PSG are “open to selling” the Uruguayan international. “Manchester United and PSG have been in touch again in the recent hours for Manuel Ugarte. Ugarte has interest also from other clubs, PSG are open to selling him this summer and he’s expected to leave. He’d be open to joining United even without UCL. Still no formal bid,” read the post shared by Romano on X (formerly Twitter).

While speaking on The Athletic FC’s podcast, David Ornstein recently shared an update on Ugarte’s much-talked-about possible switch to Manchester United. Ornstein suggested that there is still no “unanimity” at Old Trafford on Ugarte’s signing.

“I think it’s a similar situation with Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain. On the same night as Jarrad Branthwaite’s improved offer, reports came out from France suggesting that an offer from Manchester United had come in for I think around £38 million,” David Ornstein said.

“The checks I made suggested that again, this is perhaps a little bit premature, and that it’s not guaranteed that United are going to go through with the Ugarte deal. I think there’s other interest in him, and I don’t think there is a unanimity inside Old Trafford to go for him, so It’s going to take some more conversations,” he added.

With Casemiro expected to leave Manchester United, the club needs to find a prominent face in the midfield. Ugarte represented PSG 37 times last season and provided two assists. The 23-year-old had signed a five-year deal with the French giants last year. In the international arena, Ugarte has so far represented Uruguay 20 times.

Apart from Ugarte, Manchester United are also understood to be interested in completing the signing of Lille defender Leny Yoro. As per Sky Sports, Manchester United have an agreement in principle with the French football club for the 18-year-old talented youngster.
