The Marvels director Nia DaCosta expressed her wish to work with Shah Rukh Khan in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha. The filmmaker will be releasing her Marvel Cinematic Universe film, The Marvels, on the occasion of Diwali in India. The film brings three female superheroes, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), together for the first time. Ahead of the film’s release, DaCosta sat down for an exclusive chat with us and spoke about Bollywood.
We asked the Marvel director if she had a chance to work with a Bollywood star, who would it be. DaCosta announced Shah Rukh Khan’s name with no second thoughts. “Shah Rukh Khan is kind of a legend, isn’t he? It’s kind of a no-brainer in that sense,” she said.
Ask her if it ever crossed her mind to rope in a Bollywood star in the movie like Farhan Akhtar was brought on board for Ms Marvel, DaCosta confessed that there was no discussion during the making. “I never thought about that. I think we were just keeping everything really organic so we never wanted to do any kind of stunt casting. But there is always time, there’s always time,” she said.
The Marvels boasts of a stellar cast. While Iman represents the South Asian community, South Korean actor Park Seo Joon is making South Koreans and K-drama fans across the globe proud with his role in the film. Although the movie has a lot of representation, DaCosta admitted she did not feel the weight and pressure of the representation.
“I inherited an amazing cast in the Khan family and Kamala Khan. And Park Seo Joon was an actor that I just thought was amazing and when this character (Prince Yan) came up, I was like he would be really good for this. I was just excited for the opportunity to put more people in the film from different backgrounds but I didn’t feel pressured around it,” DaCosta said.
The Marvels is releasing in theatres on November 10 in English Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
